What HDR Compass actually does with the file
Not twenty-six mini-apps and not a chatbot. Two grounded workflows — intake vetting and live case review — built around the way a housing disrepair fee earner actually runs a matter.
Reads the whole folder
Connect the case folder in Chrome or Edge. HDR Compass reads the folder's PDFs, DOCX files, text and image files — locally, in your browser. It extracts the text, flags scanned pages and unsupported formats (legacy .doc, email files) rather than silently dropping them, and builds an evidence bundle from what is actually in the file.
Reconciles disclosure
The review is instructed to cross-check what the letter of claim alleged against what disclosure actually shows: repair job numbers, target completion dates, inspection findings, and the client's own account of when each defect was reported. Gaps and inconsistencies are flagged, not glossed over.
Scores the 14-point acceptance gate
Before you take the matter on, the England 14-point test from your own stage workflow: notice, limitation, landlord type, tenant causation, evidence, spoliation. Hard-stop failures are RED. Partial evidence caps at AMBER. Every criterion is editable by the fee earner before export.
Infers the litigation stage
From the file inventory and extracted text, HDR Compass proposes where the matter sits in the 26-stage lifecycle — pre-action, issuing, defence, disclosure, trial prep. It is a proposal with a confidence level and a visible override, never a silent assumption.
Drafts the chronology, quantum and offers
A structured report: case summary, chronology, claim as pleaded, evidence analysis, legal framework, quantum on the rent-proportion method, offers with amounts and dates (Part 36 vs Calderbank), strengths/weaknesses/risks, and priority-ordered next steps for the stage you are at.
Exports into firm storage
The advisory report is written straight to the connected firm folder — zero-retention, nothing stored on our servers, filename and footer carrying the fee earner who confirmed it. You keep the working file; we never become a second repository of your case papers.

Every scoring rule, prompt and deadline in HDR Compass is written against the current England statutory framework and case law — and audited by a solicitor and a compliance officer.
Awaab's Law (SI 2025/1042)
Applied to all social landlords in England — council and housing association — with the Phase 1 statutory deadlines surfaced (24-hour emergency action, 10-working-day investigation, 5-working-day make safe, 3-working-day information; Phase 2 from 30/11/2026). Private landlords are correctly routed through s.11 / Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) Act 2018 instead.
HHSRS 21-hazard framework
Scored against the 21 hazards under SI 2026/571 (in force 23/06/2026), with the HIGH ≥1,000 / MEDIUM 100–999 / LOW <100 bands a surveyor would use.
Track allocation (CPR 26.9)
The claim is not small claims when repair cost AND general damages each exceed £1,000 — checked independently, per Bellion. The draft applies the rule instead of free-wheeling on allocation.
Protocol clocks & limitation
Letter of claim reply within 20 working days (+2 deemed service), defence 14 or 28 days, Part 36 acceptance 21 days. Limitation is checked at notice date + 6 years as a conservative gate; the Limitation Act 1980 clock strictly runs from when damage first occurred, and the case-review draft applies that accrual rule.
Approved case law only
The prompts cite only established authority (Quick v Taff Ely, Edwards v Kumarasamy, Grand v Gill, O'Brien v Robinson, Bellion v Nottingham). Two excluded authorities (Smith v Sanctuary Housing; Mazur) are excluded by instruction from every prompt — as with all outputs, citations are a draft for the fee earner to verify.
Advisory, human-in-the-loop
Every output is a draft for the fee earner. Confirmation gates block export until a solicitor has reviewed; the export records who confirmed and when. The responsibility stays with the firm — as it should.

Security
Your files, your key, your control
The design brief was simple: HDR Compass should never be in a position where it can see, store, or lose your clients' case papers.
Files never leave your firm's control
There is no upload API and no case-data database. Reads and writes happen in your browser against firm-owned storage — a local folder today, Microsoft 365 Graph on the roadmap. With a cloud AI provider, document text travels only from your browser to that provider under your own key; we physically cannot see your case papers.
Your own AI key (BYOK)
You bring the provider API key — OpenAI, Azure, Anthropic, or a local model. Prompt bodies and documents go from your browser to the provider you chose, not through our servers. Switch provider, revoke the key, or go local; the control is yours.
Zero retention, literally
HDR Compass stores accounts, seats and subscription status only. No prompts, no reports, no extracted text, no file names are retained on our side. Export your data or delete your account in-app, any time (GDPR Arts. 15 & 17).
Hardened defaults
Row-level security on every table, immutable org membership, webhook signatures verified, CSP frame-ancestors none, HSTS in production, and per-IP rate limiting on billing routes. Errors report to Sentry with PII scrubbed.
